PREPLANNED CAS REQUEST ACTIONS (Figure C-15)

Company or Cavalry Troop Commander:

i. Coordinates request with artillery FO
ii. Passes request to Battalion S-3 Air using Battalion Command Net (FM Radio)

Battalion or Cavalry Squadron (TACP) (FSCC) S-3 Air:

i. Receives request from units and staff
ii. Plots targets on map
iii. Coordinates with Artillery LO FAC (TACP) S-3, if needed
iv. Assigns Army mission number from SOP
v. Assigns priority
vi. Passes approved request to Brigade S-3 Air using Divisional Air Request Net (HF Radio)

FAC: advises CO on AF capabilities and limitations

Brigade or Cavalry Regiment, ARVN Sector  (TACP) (FSCC) S-3 Air:

i. Receives request from units and staff
ii. Plots targets on map
iii. Coordinates with Artillery LO ALO (TACP) S-3, if needed
iv. Consolidates request and assigns priorities
v. Passes approved request to Divisional G-3 Air using Divisional Air Request net (HF Radio)

ALO: advises CO on AF capabilities and limitations

Division  (TACP) (G-3 Air) G-3 Air:

i. Performs duties similar to Brigade S-3 Air
ii. Passes request to G-3 Air at Corps/FFORCEV using Army Air Request Net (HF Radio)

ALO: advises CG on AF capabilities and limitations

Corps/FFORCEV (DASC) (G-3 Air) G-3 Air:

i. Performs duties similar to Brigade S-3 Air
ii. Coordinates with ALO or DASC, if needed
iii. Checks Divisional priorities as set by CG of Corps/FFORCEV
iv. Coordinates as necessary
v. Assigns priorities
vi. Passes approved request to TASE as Army requirements, using Army Air requirements net (HF Radio)

MACV  (TACC) (TASE) J-3 Air:

i. Receives request from Corps/FFORCEV
ii. Determines request to be approved, based on sorties available and COMUSMACV priorities
iii. Passes approved request to TACC

TACC : provides number of sorties available to TASE


PREPLANNED CAS EXECUTION ACTIONS (Figure C-16)

MACV (TACC):

i. receives Army requirements from TASE in priority order
ii. determines aircraft and ordnance required to satisfy requirements
iii. Selects units to fly missions
iv. Computes TOTs
v. Frags fighter units to fly missions
vi. Passes information to TASE, appropriate DASC CRC-CRP

J-3 Air (MACV) & Corps/FFORCEV: Notifies units of TACC action (Army request net)

Corps/FFORCEV (DASC) G-3 Air:

i. Receives info on missions from TASE/TACC
ii. Notifies division of actions taken and mission data (Army air request net)
iii. Prepares and disseminates daily changes to air fire plan

Division (TACP) G-3 Air:

i. Receives mission data from G-3 Air Corps/FFORCEV
ii. Coordinates with TOC elements: fire Support, ALO, Army Aviation, Air Defense and others as necessary
iii. Passes mission data to brigade S-3 Air (Division air request net)

ALO: Coordinates with TACP at brigade or battalion, as needed

Battalion or Cavalry Squadron (TACP) (FSCC) S-3 Air:

i. receives mission data from brigade and passes to FAC
ii. Coordinates with FAC on control of strike. If Army aircraft are to be used, arranges
iii. Passes strike information to units concerned (Battalion net)

FAC (TACP):
i. Insures FAC in position to control strike
ii. Coordinates with artillery LO; arranges for suppressive fires, restrictive fires, and target marking

Note: Use of restrictive fire plan up to battalion CO

Company or Cavalry Troop Commander:

i. Informs units of impending CAS strike
ii. Prepares to receive and brief TACP
iii. Marks position

FAC:
i. Coordinates with artillery LO on target marking and suppressive fires
ii. Contacts aircraft at control point
iii. Briefs flight leader
iv. Controls the strike
v. Gives results of strike to flight leader (UHF radio)

Flight Leader:
i. Reports result to FAC
ii. Makes in-flight report to CRC (UHF radio)


IMMEDIATE CAS REQUEST ACTION (Figure C-17)

Company or Cavalry Troop Commander:

i. Coordinates request for CAS with artillery FO/FAC (if present)
ii. Passes request to Battalion S-3 Air using Battalion Command Net (FM Radio)

Note: if battalion CO is at company with FAC, can give on-the-spot approval and FAC sends request direct to DASC over Air Force air request net. If battalion CO not present, request must go to battalion for approval

Battalion or Cavalry Squadron (TACP) (FSCC) S-3 Air:

i. Receives request over battalion command net
ii. Plots targets on map
iii. Coordinates with Artillery LO FAC (TACP) S-3, if necessary
iv. Passes approved request to ALO

ALO:
i. advises CO on AF capabilities and limitations
ii. Sends request to DASC using Air Force request net
iii. Keeps S-3 Air informed

Note: If request disapproved, informs unit and how request will be satisfied using battalion command net (FM radio)

Brigade or Cavalry Regiment (TACP) (FSCC) ALO:

i. Monitors Air Force request net
ii. Acknowledges request. After acknowledging, silence is consent.
iii. Passes request to S-3 Air
iv. Keeps S-3 Air informed

S-3 Air:
i. Plots target on map
ii. Coordinates with FSCOORD S-3 if necessary
iii. Informs ALO of approval or disapproval

Note: if request disapproved, ALO informs battalion ALO and DASC and how request will be satisfied, as stated by S-3 Air using Air Force request net (HF/SSB radio)

Division  (TACP) (G-3 Air) ALO:

i. Monitors Air Force request net
ii. Acknowledges request. After acknowledging, silence is consent.
iii. Passes request to S-3
iv. Keeps G-3 Air informed

G-3 Air:
i. Plots target on map
ii. Checks priority of requesting unit
iii. Checks with fire support element of TOC
iv. Informs ALO of approval or disapproval of request

Note: If request disapproved, ALO informs battalion ALO and DASC how request will be satisfied, as stated by G-3 Air, using Air Force request net 

Corps/FFORCEV (DASC) (G-3 Air) DASC:

i. Acts as control of Air Force request net
ii. Receives request over Air Force request net
iii. Passes copy of request to G-3 Air
iv. Begins planning CAS mission

G-3 Air:
i. Determines priority of requesting division
ii. Plots target on map
iii. Coordinates with TOC of following elements; Fire Support, Air Defense and Army Aviation
iv. Approves or disapproves request
v. Passes approved request to DASC as Army requirement
vi. If disapproved, informs DASC. DASC informs requesting unit ALO and how request will be satisfied, as stated by G-3 Air, using Air Force request net.


IMMEDIATE CAS EXECUTION ACTIONS (Figure C-18)

Corps/FFORCEV (DASC) (TASE) DASC:

i. Plots target on map
ii. Checks sorties available
iii. Checks possibility of divert
iv. Determines aircraft and ordnance required
v. Computes TOT
vi. Request scramble from TACC
vii. TACC scrambles and informs DASC and CRC
viii. Fill in air mission data from TACC
ix. Notify CRC and CRP
x. Give copy of air mission data to G-3 Air
xi. Monitor mission
xii. Notify requesting unit TACP of approval and give air mission data. (Air Force request net)
xiii. Notify G-3 Air of strike results

G-3 Air:
i. Post CAS status board
ii. Notify requesting unit of strike results

Division (TACP) (TASE) ALO: Monitors DASC transmissions. If necessary, relays air mission data to requesting unit TACP (Air Force request Net)

Brigade/Cavalry Regiment (TACP) (TASE) ALO: Monitors DASC transmissions. If necessary, relays air mission data to requesting unit TACP (Air Force request Net)

Battalion/Cavalry Squadron, ARVN Sector (TACP) (FSCC) ALO:

i. Receives approval and mission data over Air Force request net
ii. Coordinates with FAC
iii. Insures FAC in position to control strike
iv. Passes mission data to S-3 Air

i. Receives mission data from ALO
ii. Notifies requesting unit of approval and other necessary information
